Four Cougars named to All-Crossroads League teams

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University men's basketball team had four of its members earn recognition on the All-Crossroads League teams when the conference office announced the awards Wednesday.


Gabe Newhof was selected to the First Team All-Crossroads League. Travis Grayson and Kevyn Robertson were named to the Second Team while Robertson also earned an All-Defensive Team nod. Shane Rykse was voted to the All-Freshman Team.


Newhof claimed his third straight all-league honor. The junior forward led Spring Arbor in scoring for the third straight year averaging 21.7 points per game, which ranked second in the Crossroads League. The Hudsonville, Michigan native had four 30-point performances this season, including a 36-point effort against Grace Christian.


Through his first three seasons, Newhof has scored 1,873 points – currently the 12th-most in SAU history.


Grayson added another piece of hardware to his mantle with his second straight Second Team selection. The Valparaiso, Indiana native started 24 games in 2024-25 and averaged a team-best 4.2 assists per game while also adding 15.3 points per game. He scored more than 20 points in five games, including a season-high 28 in the triple overtime matchup against Indiana Wesleyan in the Crossroads League Tournament.


Grayson joined the program's 1,000 Point Club this year and currently stands at 1,090 career points.


Robertson had a sensational senior season. The White Lake, Michigan native started all 29 games and scored a career-high 363 points on his way to averaging 12.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. He also registered a career-high 34 steals and 14 blocks. He anchored an SAU defense that ranked first in the Crossroads League in points allowed, surrendering just 69.9 points per game.


Over his four years, Robertson has posted 1,224 career points and 764 career rebound, becoming one of 10 players in SAU history to record 1,200 points and 700 rebounds.


Rykse made an immediate impact in his freshman season. The Schoolcraft, Michigan native played in all 29 games and started 17 averaging 6.9 points per game. He made a team-best 49 3-pointers and shot 40 percent from behind the arc in conference play. He scored a season-high 23 points while making five 3-pointers against Goshen.
